Sessions Elsa Mantle Clock, Time & Strike

THIS CLOCK WAS A RESTORATION PROJECT FOR A CLIENT, AND IS NOT FOR SALE.
This clock was in a house fire, and suffered fire and "rescue" damage to the case. The heat of the fire had not caused much damage, but the effects of the chemicals and water used to extinguish the fire had damaged the case.
The movement was not materially damaged, but I completely disassembled and cleaned everything to be sure that no chemicals had gotten into the mechanism. After cleaning everything was put back together and tested.
While the clock's movement was not seriously damaged by the fire or its aftermath, the case was a different story. The heat (or the chemicals) had caused some of the paint to blister and run, and the dial and surrounding bezel had also been affected by the fire. The case brasses had either been smoke damaged, or had been painted some time in the past; at any rate, they needed to be cleaned.
After removing the old paint from the case and its brasses, cleaning the faux marble case inserts, and polishing the half-round pillars, I tried to 1) paint the case, and 2) plate the brasses. Unfortunately there was still some chemical residue in the wood, and I had to strip everything to keep the chemicals from leaching into the new paint. After re-treatment the case was given two coats of new enamel.
The "brasses" were not really brass, but "pot metal," and they wouldn't take brass plating; so I had to resort to painting them with high quality automotive paint. They turned out very nice.
The clock is now back together, and looks very nice.
