Aaron Willard,Jr. 8 Day Lyre Clock
- Description:
-
THIS CLOCK WAS A RESTORATION PROJECT FOR A CLIENT, AND IS NOT FOR SALE.
This lovely clock was made by Aaron Willard, Jr. in 1830. Willard was one of America's most talented and successful clockmakers in the early 1800s. His clocks are valued by collectors all over the world.
This clock had not run for several years, and the mahogany case had come a bit unglued due to age and modern heating. The top, sides, and throat were re-glued, and the case was cleaned, polished, and waxed. The (original) tablet was in good condition, with only a slight amount of flaking, so we left it alone.
The restoration of this clock also involved replacement of #3 and #4 front plate bushings, and #2, #3, and #4 bushings in the rear plate. All the clock's pivots were polished, as was the pallet.
The result was (is) a remarkably beautiful example of a correctly restored American masterpiece.
