Gilbert BimBam Mantle Clock

Description:

THIS CLOCK WAS A RESTORATION PROJECT FOR A CLIENT, AND IS NOT FOR SALE.

Sometimes you get a clock which, although there is no justification for restoration based on the value of the clock, it is irresistable as a restoration project. This is such a clock. It had been found in a barn in Minnesota, where it had obviously resided for years. As can be seen from the accompanying photos, it was inhabited by spiders, and had been used by birds as a restroom. It was really bad. After apprising the owner of the value of the clock, and the cost to restore it, he decided to proceed. The clock's time & strike movement was completely rebuilt and the case sanded and refinished with tung oil. This was a thorough restoration, and it really was quite gratifying to see the result (yes, I did leave a little bird dropping on the inside of the rear door, just to remind the ownert of how the clock looked before restoration).
