Charles Frodsham Double Fusee

Description:

THIS CLOCK WAS A RESTORATION PROJECT FOR A CLIENT, AND IS NOT FOR SALE.

This English double fusee was made in 1850 by one of London's most prominent clockmakers. When brought to us for restoration the clock had not been run for several years, and the fusee mechanism was quite corroded and dirty. The case was mostly intact, but very dirty. Our first task was cleaning and polishing the movement. All components were disassembled, cleaned, and polished. The fusee springs were removed from their barrels, cleaned, and oiled. The chains were cleaned, soaked in oil, and reinstalled on the barrels. The movement was reassembled, oiled, and adjusted. We had the dial re-silvered. We replaced the rear feet on the case, re-set the door on its hinges, straightened and veneered the top block on the case, polished and blued all case screws, and re-glued all loose case trim pieces. Then the case was polished and waxed.
