Unsigned 8 Day Serpentine Time & Strike

Description:

This beautiful example of the Serpentine period is not signed, but carries serial number 24729. The four-post keyhole mounting bracket, dial pan, and pendulum top block have matching numbers. The clock probably dates from around 1875.

The case has a rich deep maroon color. It has been highly polished and waxed. Although the top finials are replacements, they are nicely done, and match the bottom finial, which is original. The original wall stabilizer bars are in place, but the stabilizers are replacements.

The dial is in perfect condition. The hands are correct replacements.

The pendulum is zinc-backed, and has been polished and gold plated, as have the weights.

The movement was cleaned and oiled in June, 2007; the pivots and plates were polished, and all the screws were polished and re-blued; the clock runs perfectly.

Caveats:

The splat has been broken and repaired; very nicely done, and not apparent unless you are looking for it. The bottom of the door has a "typical" crack in the middle; also nicely repaired, and not noticeable.

The top finials are replacements, and match the bottom (original) finial.

The hands are replacements.

The original stabilizer screws have been replaced with new pieces.
