Japy Frere was one of the major clock makers in France from the late 1700s to the end of the 19th century. This clock carries the "Grand Diplome d'Honneur" along with sn 15641-52, which dates it around 1880.
The two spring rack and snail movement was built with a Brocot suspension and has a two jar mercury pendulum. All movement components have been highly polished and gold plated. All the screws have been polished and re-blued.
The case has also been completely disassembled, polished, and gold plated, and is in very close to perfect condition. The beveled glasses are original, and although the upper front door piece has a very small chip, it can't be seen when the mouldings are in place.
