Unsigned 3 Day Bedermeier - Grand Sonnerie

Description:

This little clock is like a jewel box. The (restored) condition of the case is so nice you would never know that the clock was made in about 1845 (it is not a reproduction).

The seatboard-mounted mechanism is a single weight (time) and two springs (chime and strike). It has a deadbeat escapement. These little "combination" movements are very small and delicate; almost like a large watch. The weight is tiny; the Viennese Bedermeier clocks often needed very little weight to run.

The single-piece dial has some minor wear around the winding holes, all of which have been repaired. The piecrust bezel has been polished and gold plated, as has the weight and the pendulum. The hands are typical of the period (ie, beautiful).

The mahogany-veneered case has appropriate satinwood banding, and is spectacular. Finished with shellac, the entire case has been French polished. The glasses all appear to be original.
