Unsigned 8 Day Bedermeier Time Only
- Description:
-
This is one of the simplest, most elegant Bedermeier clocks out there. Made around 1840, this clock is unsigned, but beautifully made, both inside and out.
The seat board-mounted single weight mechanism has been completely cleaned and oiled, wheels and plates polished and gold plated, arbors and pivots highly polished, and all screws re-blued. It is a beautifully restored example of mid-19th century craftsmanship.
The milk-glass dial and finely cut hands, combined with a beautiful piecrust bezel add to the overall simple beauty of this clock. The bezel has been polished out and gold plated, as have the weight, pulley, and pendulum.
The case is topped off by a finely-carved headpiece (original), and has the usual elegant satinwood banding. The tailpiece is probably an "old" replacement, but very appropriate and nicely made. Both wall stabilisers are original.
- Caveats:
-
Dial has a repaired hairline crack, and some of the Roman numerals have been worn a bit. The tailpiece is a replacment.
