W. Blaschko 8 Day Dachluhr, Time Only

Description:

Claterbos lists Wenzel Blaschko as working in Vienna from 1833 to 1861. This clock probably dates from about 1835.

It is a marriage, but both the case and the mechanism are absolutely correct for the period, and the extra holes in the backboard are not new (see photo).

The original milkglass dial has been restored by Timesavers; it has a diagonal hairline crack, but is otherwise in very good condition. The engine-turned bezel is in beautiful polished condition, and has been gold plated. The finely-cut hands are original.

The light mahogany case is in perfect condition, without any surface flaws, and with the typical satinwood inlays which make these clocks so attractive. The case has been recently cleaned and waxed. The brass decorative piece on the bottom of the case is not original, but I like it, and have left it in place.

The movement is typical early Viennese in design and execution. The wheels are finely cut, the pivots are highly polished, and the plates have been polished and gold plated. The movement was made with stopworks, and the weight is hanging from new gut. The movement was cleaned and oiled in May, 2008.

The polished steel pendulum rod has a two-sided brass bob, which has been polished and gold plated. The original wall stabilisers are in place, and have been polished and gold plated.

Caveats:

This clock is an apparent marriage, with correct components.

The original milkglass dial has a hairline crack.
