Unsigned 30 Day Transitional Time Only

Description:

This gorgeous clock dates from about 1850, and is an outstanding example of the shift from the austere Bedermeier style to the more ornate Transitional style. Although the movement is not signed, the attention to detail indicates that it was obviously made by an accomplished Vienna clockmaker.

The finely-made 30 day (5 wheel) mechanism is equipped with maintaining power (of course), and has been completely restored to its former glory. The wheels, plates, and attachments have been highly polished and gold plated. The arbors have all been polished, and all of the screws have been polished and re-blued.

The 2 piece porcelain dial is in almost perfect condition, with no hairlines, but with a very light scratch on the inner dial. The piecrust bezel is of an unusual design, and has been polished and gold plated. The hands are absolutely wonderful, and original.

The case is a mix of woods; the backboard is very coarse-grained rosewood veneer, while the carcase is a finer-grained rosewood veneer, with faux-grained corner pieces on the door. With the exception of the front of the curved case bottom, which has been re-veneered in mahogany, the case is completely original, and has been cleaned, polished, and waxed to a high luster. All of the glasses are old and wavy; maybe not original, but very correct. The beautifully carved headpiece, bottom finial, and wall stabilisers are all original to the clock.

The pendulum is brass on both sides, with the original hanger and impulse plate, and the brass weight and pulley are also original. All brass components have been polished and gold plated.

The original porcelain beat scale is in perfect condition.

This is a wonderful original example of Viennese craftsmanship.

Caveats:

Small scratch on inner dial.

Front of case bottom has been re-veneered.
